PLUG Meetings

November Meeting (Meeting Archive 2014)

The meeting on 26th November 2014 is on the topic Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs).

A look at some of the many alternate GUIs available for Linux.

Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs)

There are a large number of alternative GUIs available for Linux. Recent Ubuntu systems come with the "Unity" interface, but Ubuntu also provides "official" alternatives using KDE (Kubuntu), LXDE (Lubuntu), XFCE (Xubuntu) and the GNOME desktop (Ubuntu GNOME). The Linux Mint distribution offers the Cinnamon or Mate desktop environment. There are many more to choose from

There's a brief summary of some of the more common GUIs for Linux on HowToGeek.

In this session we'll look at a number of different GUIs and go over some of the differences between them.
