PLUG Meetings

April Meeting (Meeting Archive 2017)

The meeting on 26th April 2017 is on the topic Remote access protocols and software.

A look at some of the commonly used methods for remotely accessing a computer ranging from simple remote terminal to full remote desktop applications.

Telnet is the original protocol use in the early days of networking to gain command line access to a remote computer.  You can still use it, but there are now more secure alternatives which offer far more functionality.

As well as looking at terminal access programs like many GUI console programs that are available with Linux, we'll look at some of the mechanisms for getting a GUI application to run remotely over SSH.  Then there are various ways of setting up a full remote desktop using applications such as NoMachine's NX protocol and the familty of VNC applications.

Come to learn and to share your experiences!
